Installation
------------
The Network Message Board diskette contains the following files:
* NMBU.EXE which is the Network Message Board Utility executable
program (normally accessed by network users)
* NMBA.EXE which is the Network Message Board Administration
executable program (normally accessed by network administrators)
* NMB.IMG which is the Network Message Board fonts image file
* NMB01.DAT which is a sample Network Message Board message file
* NMB02.DAT which is a sample Network Message Board message file
* NMB03.DAT which is a sample Network Message Board message file
* NMB.PCX which is a sample Network Message Board PCX file
* README.??? which are ASCII text files that contain additional
information which may not be included in this operations guide
To install:
* Create a subdirectory on your standalone PC or your network file
server named NMB (actually, any subdirectory name you prefer is
acceptable)
* Switch to the created subdirectory
* Copy the files from the floppy diskette to the \NMB subdirectory
* At the DOS prompt, type NMBU (or NMBA) and press ENTER
NMBU will automatically cycle through the sample message files after
which you will be returned to the DOS prompt. You can also tap the
[Esc] two or three times during display of any message to exit to DOS,
or press any other key during display of any message to cycle to the
next message.
NMBA provides access for message creation and management.
For increased network security, you can mark the \NMB subdirectory as
READ-ONLY for network users. However, as administrator, you will need
read/write access to the \NMB subdirectory in order to create or
modify message files.
Note that the drive\path for both NMBU.EXE and NMBA.EXE files can also
be redirected per the following DOS command line syntax:
NMBU.EXE N:\NMB\DATA ..and.. NMBA.EXE N:\NMB\DATA
...where N:\NMB\DATA is the drive\path for all NMB message and image
files.

NMBU Operation
--------------
The NMBU.EXE Utility executable file displays graphics text messages
and PCX/GIF image files to network users.
Message and/or image information is maintained in individual
specification files named NMB01.DAT through NMB10.DAT. All messages
and images are displayed in numerical (1 through 10) order for the
amount of time (duration, in seconds) specified for each individual
message and/or image.
During message or image display, users can press the [Esc] key several
times to exit the Network Message Board, or press any other key to
advance to the next message or image.
Note that messages and images will only be displayed per the following
criteria:
* The message specification file (NMB01.DAT through NMB10.DAT) must
actually exist
* The current date must not be earlier than the EFFECTIVE date
(unless the EFFECTIVE date is left blank)
* The current date must not be equal to or later than the message
EXPIRATION date (unless the EXPIRATION DATE is left blank)
* Specified PCX/GIF image files must actually exist and must be in a
format/resolution compatible with the user's video display type
Once all specified messages and/or images have been displayed to a
user, Network Message Board then returns the user to character text
mode and the DOS prompt.
The following DOS command line option will place Network Message Board
into a continuous looping mode:
SET NMB_LOOP=ON
To exit from this mode, press the [Esc] key several times. To switch
back to normal display mode, use the following DOS command line:
SET NMB_LOOP=
